Referees and Officials
Meet Corpsegrinder, Head Referee for the Portneuf Valley Bruisers.
Referees and Officials are a vital part of roller derby. Referees help keep roller derby a hard-hitting sport rather than allowing it to devolve into a bunch of women in skates hitting each other. The Portneuf Valley Bruisers skate under the WFTDA official rules, and all referees and officials will be expected to know all of the rules and how to effectively communicate them. We will provide all of the training skating and otherwise that you need to be a good official, you just need to bring skates, safety gear, and a positive attitude (and you can borrow the skates and safety gear)!
Anyone can be a roller derby official, provided that they are over 18. Officiating is a great way for men to participate in roller derby, and for women who want to participate but don’t want to participate in bouts.
Referees are on skates, NSOs (Non Skating Officials) are not on skate!
