     APRIL 2012 SKATER OF THE MONTH

 What is you skater name and why?

As with many new derbies I was drawing a blank on a name to choose and was talking to my Dad on the phone about it. At the end of the conversation he said “Well, good luck. I’m off to read my Oedipus Rex now.” And, ta da, there it was! A tragedy on skates was born! (and in case you were wondering no, I don’t want to murder my father or sleep with my mother)

What home team do you skate on?

The Bruisy Q’s. I’m looking forward to wearing purple, butt-spreading spanky shorts and causing some positive, heart-felt damage.

      How long have you skated with P.V.B.R.D.A?

              Just about a year.

     What position do you play?

Any blocker position

     What do you love most about Derby?

             I love the sport and the athleticism but, truthfully, I love the company of my derby famn damily best.

   Who inspires you and why?

           Wow, I have so many of the big, obvious ones. Honestly, I am inspired and encouraged by anyone who wakes up in the morning, stretches, takes a deep breath, and goes and tries to do something good, even if it’s something little like loving on your beasts, sharing your cookies with your surly coworker or not giving the little old lady driving badly next to you the finger. Even the littlest nice and good things have a positive impact. Sometimes I even end up being my own hero for the day.

   Do you have a favorite Derby Girl?

  My favorite derby girl? Anyone who, despite much trepidation, laces up a pair of skates and gives derby a go for the first time. That is true bravery there.

   What is your motto?

You have the rest of your life to be old (just because you are never too old to do anything)
